Some new options for off-campus living

As the spring semester progresses, many returning ECU students are taking care of housing arrangements for next semester. While the dorms on campus are an option, Greenville offers many off-campus housing choices as well.

We've compiled a list of off-campus alternatives that are sure to fit your lifestyle.

For students who want the luxury of independence without leaving campus, Campus Towers is perfect. Campus Towers is located between White Hall and the Student Recreational Center. The rent ranges from $475 per person for a two-bed/ two-bath, and $530 for a one bedroom. The rent includes utilities, high speed Internet and cable. The only downfall is that permits for parking right in front of the building are not permitted. However, there are other lots with reserved parking for Campus Towers residents. On First Street, new apartments are being built. First Street Place is currently leasing one, two and three bedroom apartments. The prices range from $550 to $880 per person. At First Street Place, residents don't just live, they live it up. The amenities include: cable, high-speed Internet, a pool, gym and a game room with gaming stations. Even though the apartments aren't done yet, a virtual tour is available at smartstudentliving.com.

"It's the place to be if you're looking for unique living experience within a close proximity to campus," said James Morris, the assistant property manager at First Street Place.

For more information about First Street Place, stop by the leasing office on Charles Boulevard, in the same shopping center as Swiss Chalet and Beat the Bookstore.

The Bellamy, a new gated community, is currently offering a special on apartment units until this Friday. If a lease is approved and signed by then, all extra fees are waved and nothing has to be paid until the move-in date in August. The rent prices will range from $440 per person, for a four-bedroom loft, to $515 per person for a two bedroom. Utilities are included in the rent. For pet lovers, the Bellamy will become pet friendly in August.

"I like the fact [that] the Bellamy is secluded and far away, but I don't like the parking situation," said Tranell Chavis, a resident at the Bellamy. Chavis was referring to the visitor's parking, which is located across the street from the complex.

The Annual Apartment Fair will be held on Tuesday, March 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Mendenhall Brickyard. A representative of several of the apartment complexes in the city will be available to answer questions and give information on any move-in specials. Lots of freebies will be given out as well. Apartment hunting can be stressful if it's not done right. Before going on a physical hunt, make a list of amenities and aspects of an apartment you feel are the most important. That way, time won't be wasted looking into something that won't work out.

Remember, there are thousands of others searching for housing as well, and apartments are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The earlier the apartment hunting process begins, the better off you will be in finding that perfect fit.
