With student's return from spring break, the end of school is not the only thing on the minds of many.
Each spring the Student Union hosts their largest event on campus, giving students a wide venue of activities and fun to participate in.
"It's their signature program, tailored to the various interests of the students on campus," said David Travis, director of University Union.
"An open call was made to students interested in the planning and organizing stages of the event, and to give feedback on the process."
Laura French, Barefoot on the Mall committee chair, explained the event as a celebration in the spring to "concluded the year and kickoff for the summer."
"There will be music, food, a step show, bull riding, bouncy boxing and an inflatable obstacle course as well as any club or organization that wishes to partake in the event," said French. "It's the biggest event on campus."
The bands selected to perform are described as "up and coming," highlighting developing talent and ability.
Last year, the Student Union began for the first time soliciting the student body for their opinion of headliners, allowing those interested in the day to cast their votes for a prospective band.
Student Union then attempts to select a diverse line of performers to balance the genres.
This year, one of the openers will be the winner of ECU's very own Battle of the Bands.
A listening party will be held April 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Mendenhall Student Center brickyard, and samples of the performing artist's music will be provided, as well as food for those who come out.
Those performing include Wrong Way (Sublime tribute) and the Urban Sophisticates.
"I like the energy and feel the entire student body is represented," said Erin Edwards, the Student Union president-elect. "Throughout the year it is hard to meet everyone's tastes, but I feel Barefoot does just that."
The day will also be spent raising money for charity, which will then be donated to the Children's Miracle Network, while a drawing will be held for an iPhone.
This year will be ECU's 29th Barefoot on the Mall event.
"Interestingly enough, it has never rained on any of the days we've hosted Barefoot," Edwards said.
Student Union is currently accepting applications for this coming year's committee chairs.
Applications may be picked up and dropped off in the Student Union's office in MSC.
