Rebel, ECU's Student Media literary magazine, won the annual Pacemaker Award at the 88th Annual Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Advisers National College Media Convention in Austin, Texas.

This is the ninth time Rebel has won the Pacemaker Award. ECU's media group was the only finalist for the award in the state of North Carolina.

Rebel also won first place for Best in Show in the literary magazine category, beating N.C. State, who took second place.

ECU was represented at the national convention by several members of student media groups; these included, Rebel, Expressions, WZMB Radio and Buccaneer yearbook all sent representatives. Paul Isom, director of student media, and Terrence Dove, coordinator for WZMB, served as faculty representatives at the conference.

WZMB-91.3 FM was also invited to participate in a Cybercast from the conference. The ECU radio station was one of few stations invited to broadcast from the event. The ECU station went live on the air worldwide for two hours Saturday afternoon.
