Are you bitter about your team's flag football loss? Do you need some exercise to lose those extra poundsThe ECU Ineramural three-on-three basketball league will kick off with a captain's meeting on Monday, Oct. 27th at 5 p.m. in 239 SRC.

Interested parties will be provided with necessary information about schedules, rules and sportsmanship.

"The format is the same as football," said Laura Triyonis, assistant director of intramural services. "We are expecting 40 to 50 teams this year,"

There will be separate men's divisions based on skill level. Women will have one division and fraternities will compete amongst themselves.

Triyonis said.

Each team is guaranteed four regular season games. Winning one regular season game advances a team to the playoffs. The playoff format is a single elimination tournament. Intramural services will seed the teams according to their records.

In order for a team to advance to the playoff they must have an acceptable level of sportsmanship.

A team having three unsportsmanlike fouls in a game receives an automatic forfeit. Student referees officiate all games. Intramural services holds officials meetings to ensure referees are sufficiently trained to fully understand the game.

"As far as rules go, it would be like any other three-on-three tournament where you have to take it back to half court and so forth," Triyonis said.

Games will be played simultaneously in the SRC on courts one and two from Sunday through Thursday each week. Schedules for each time will be available online and posted inside the intramural office.

Recreation services are geared up for a new year after gaining momentum from the previous one.

"Last year was very competitive and we look forward to another exciting season," said Todd Riddick, ECU alumni and coordinator of recreation services.
