In ECU's first night game of the season, the Pirates and Miners raced out to a 7-7 tie at the end of the first. UTEP struck first with a 98-yard drive capped by a two-yard TD catch by UTEP's Jordan Leslie. ECU immediately responded with a scoring drive of its own, as Shane Carden ran for a six-yard score. The TD was the first time this season that the Pirates have scored in the opening quarter.

GAME HALTED DUE TO INCUMBENT WEATHER. The Pirates were inside the Miner's 10-yard line at the time the game was called. UTEP up 10-7.
PLAY RESUMES at 9:28 after over an hour of stoppage time: first play back is a Carden interception in the end zone. After UTEP again scored first (this time on a 29-yard field goal), the Pirates offense began to take over. However, after two Carden interceptions and a lengthy rain delay, the Pirates struggled to get any points on the board. With 12 seconds remaining, Carden found Hardy in the end zone for a three-yard TD pass.
