Remembering the 4000

On Easter Sunday, while much of the United States was attending Easter services or romping around looking for hidden Easter eggs, the death toll of the current war in Iraq reached 4000. This grave milestone was reached after a blast from a makeshift explosive device detonated near a vehicle in Baghdad, killing four military personnel.

    One part of the ECU community that has a long tradition at the university is the College of Education. Within the college, volunteerism and mentorship programs abound. The ECU/Americorps Project HEART initiative is just one of those programs. Americorps is a network of over 3,000 volunteer non-profit organizations, including both public agencies and faith-based initiatives committed to providing services to communities in need.

The tradition of the lodge has been maintained to the present and is still used today. Essentially, a sweat lodge ritual is a ceremonial sauna where participants pray, meditate or play music.

    Drew Curtis's Fark.com can best be characterized as "new media." Like Digg and Reddit, Fark is a news Web site where users can submit news articles from around the world, generally of a humorous or political nature. Curtis originally conceived Fark in 1999 as a way to share news items of potential interest with his friends rather than send them numerous, lengthy e-mails.
