Ray sparks Pirates in time of need

Tuesday night's sixth inning versus Old Dominion played out like a chess match for ECU Head Coach Billy Godwin, in the Pirates' 4-2 win over the Monarchs. ODU pitcher Ryan Bergh, who had given up just three hits and no runs through 5 1/3 innings, was replaced by lefty Kyle Hald after two Pirates reached base.

    Annual scrimmage set to wrap up spring

    The ECU football team will complete spring practice this Saturday afternoon, April 12, with the annual Purple-Gold game. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Students will be admitted into the contest free of charge, as long as they present a valid ECU OneCard at the gate.

    Quarterback David Garrard probably could have gotten the Jacksonville Jaguars to pay him more money. But, he was tired of negotiating. Therefore, Garrard, a former ECU great, ended the contract process Monday, signing a seven-year, $60 million contract that is the richest in franchise history.
