The ECU Alert System sent out an alert on Monday at 5 p.m. reporting that a female student was sexually assaulted in her Clement dorm room on Saturday, March 28 by three white males between the ages of 17 and 19. According to the alert, the female was approached by the suspects who asked her for directions to an off-campus location before offering to give the student a ride back to her residence hall.
Ticket 1 achieved victory this past week in the Student Government Association elections. "It broke the curse of the secretary," said newly-elected secretary Kendra Parks. In last year's election, secretary candidate Brittany Adams was the only one from her ticket that did not make it into office.
April marks the beginning of Autism Awareness Month and with this, ECU's Gamma Phi chapter of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority established its new national partnership with Autism Speaks, the nation's leading autism advocacy organization. The partnership signing will coincide with the celebration of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2.
The Rotaract Club at ECU has recognized that networking is important when trying to find a job, and will be hosting its second annual "Success in any Setting" etiquette reception this Tuesday night from 6-7:30 p.m. at Ironwood Country Club. Facilitated by Su-Su Corbitt, a certified and trained etiquette consultant, the event will teach students how to act in a social-networking environment.
On Saturday, the ECU School of Art and Design will host its Fifth Annual Youth Arts festival. The event will take place on the Mall area in the center of campus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and features art displays, live performances, including music, dance and theater and many interactive activities.
A painter accused of shooting up a North Carolina nursing home may have been after his recently estranged wife during a rampage that killed seven defenseless residents and a nurse tending to their care, authorities said Monday. Robert Stewart's wife was working as a nursing assistant at Pinelake Health and Rehab when he attacked Sunday, not long after the two split, said Carthage Police Chief Chris McKenzie.
