On Wednesday, Greenville Police Department (GPD) released a statement on Facebook about an incident involving marijuana-infused candy on Oct. 24.
According to the statement, the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force received information that THC-infused candy was being delivered to Greenville.
Detectives made contact with 21-year-old Owen Lee McKinney at East First and Harding Street. He was in possession of 200 THC-infused Nerds Rope candies, a handgun and $1600.
McKinney was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Schedule VI, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon and was booked in the Pitt County Detention Center. Mckinney received a $15,000 secure bond.
“Detectives believe the candy was likely going to be distributed at college parties. They have no reason to believe it was intended to be distributed to young children trick or treating,” the statement said.
