The East Carolina University Police Department (PD) was notified of an armed robbery which occurred at 3 a.m. this morning on College Hill Drive, according to an ECU Alert emailed statement.

Students were notified of the armed robbery through the ECU Alert system around 5 p.m. today.

According to the ECU Alert email, the victim reported there to have been “four black male subjects who approached him and engaged him in conversation.”

One subject was reported to be carrying a handgun, and the subject told the victim to give him his wallet, according to the emailed statement. The victim was not harmed during the incident.

“There is no known, on-going threat to the campus community, and ECU Police are investigating the incident,” the ECU Alert said.

According to the email, anyone with information is asked to contact the ECU PD by calling (252)-328-6787. Anonymous information can be provided to Crime Stoppers at (252)-758-7777, and LifeSafe tips are additionally able to be used to report anonymous information.

The email encouraged for recipients to remain aware of their surroundings “at all times” and to report criminal or suspicious activity as soon as possible.

Update:

Around 8 p.m. a follow up email was released by ECU Alerts notifying students that the four individuals had been located and arrested around 5 p.m. The individuals were not students.

“Again, timely notifications of crimes are essential in the investigation process. If you are a victim of a crime, or believe you have witnessed a crime, please promptly call 911,” the Alert said.
