Interim Chancellor Dan Gerlach

This morning, Interim Chancellor Dan Gerlach released a statement regarding health care in eastern North Carolina

On Wednesday, it was announced by North Carolina State Treasurer Dale R. Folwell that East Carolina University has signed a contract to join North Carolina’s State Health Plan Network. The plan would take effect this January.

In response to joining the plan, ECU News Services released a statement this morning from Interim Chancellor Dan Gerlach regarding health care in eastern North Carolina.

According to the statement, Gerlach said the “conference agreement is a historic win” for the status of health care in eastern parts of the state.

“We are extraordinarily grateful to the General Assembly for its $215 million commitment to a new Brody School of Medicine facility that will result in more and better-trained doctors and allow us to live out our mission of excellent primary care education for North Carolina students,” Gerlach said in the statement.

In the released statement, Gerlach said the conference agreement will allow there to be a focus on areas of eastern North Carolina which are “underserved.” He said ECU appreciates budget negotiators standing up for the university.
