Stoudt and Weaver

Sophomores Mikayla Stoudt and Bethany Weaver competing during a recent Track and Field meet.

The East Carolina University track and field team participated in the Raleigh Relays this past weekend, where freshman Sommer Knight and junior Grace Sullivan broke school records.

Knight placed fifth in the pole vaulting invitational event, creating a school-record of 3.95 meters. She now holds both the indoor and outdoor ECU records for pole vaulting.

“If we are going to reach our team goals by conference time, we have to continue to perform like we did this weekend,” director of men’s and women’s track and field Curt Kraft said per ecupirates.com.

Sullivan crushed her own personal record and hit a program high in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, running a 10:26.02. This has been the top time in the American Athletic Conference this season.

“Anytime your teams are setting school records this early in the outdoor season, that’s a sure sign that we can continue to improve over the next two months,” Kraft said. “I was extremely pleased with most of all the performances this weekend.”

ECU will host the Bill Carson Invitational on Friday and Saturday where the University of Charlotte, Coastal Carolina University, The Citadel University and Troy University will take part at the Bate Foundation track and field facility.
