ECU's lacrosse team from last year.

East Carolina’s women’s lacrosse team released its schedule for the upcoming 2020 season on Friday. The Pirates finished last season with a record of 5-12, looking to improve going into this season.

"We are encouraged by the progress and growth we saw in the team this fall in our returners and newcomers," head coach Amanda Moore said. "We had our most competitive fall to date, both in performance and level of competition. Competing against high level teams exposed us in a good way and we've been able to really work on skill areas of our game that haven't been strong enough in previous seasons.”

ECU will play in 11 non-conference games, but will play in the American Athletic Conference. This is the team’s second year in the AAC after starting out as independent. The conference will consist of East Carolina University, the University of Connecticut, Temple University, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Florida and Vanderbilt University. Five games this season will be hosted by the Pirates in Johnson Stadium.

The schedule starts on the road as the Pirates will face Campbell University (Feb. 22) and head back home for a game against the Lancers of Longwood University (Feb 26). Another road trip follows as ECU travels to play three teams in a row away from home.

They will play Virginia Commonwealth University (March 1), Army for the first time in program history (March 7), and then travel to face Duke University (March 10). ECU will play Niagara (March 17) and Old Dominion University (March 21) at home before ending their non-conference season at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (March 23).

“We've got a tough transition from UNC to Florida in the same week, but we know that the UNC game will prepare us for Florida,” Moore said. “Similarly, we're playing a really strong Army prior to Duke mid-season. We have a focused group that is motivated right now and we want to keep that fire burning as we roll into pre-season."

Conference games will start at home for the Pirates as they host Florida on March 28. ECU will go on the road to play Cincinnati (April 4) and UConn (April 10), and they will play Hartford for their last non-conference game (April 12) on the road as well. Their final home game will be against Temple (April 18), but the regular season will end on the road when the Pirates take on Vanderbilt on April 25.

The ACC Championship starts on April 30 with the semifinals followed by the championship game on May 2. Both rounds will be hosted at Donald R. Dizney Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.
