Scott E. Francis was appointed associate vice chancellor and president of the East Carolina University Alumni Association effective Aug. 9, a press release sent to The East Carolinian by ECU News Services said.
Francis served as director of Gator Clubs at the University of Florida and affiliate groups. At the University of Florida, Francis was responsible for 95 Gator clubs and six affiliate group, more than 700 leaders and 422,000 alumni, the press release said.
Francis said he looks forward to working ECU’s outstanding team “that is committed to leading the university to new heights.”
“I am thrilled to be joining East Carolina University, where the mission, vision and shared values of ‘servire’ align so nicely with my personal passion and commitment to building robust, inclusive and diverse alumni communities,” Francis said.
Francis received his bachelors from Western Illinois University and his masters from Stockton University. He will succeed Heath Bowman who served as the Alumni Associations president from October 2015 to January 2019.
Bowman announced his resignation in January in a letter addressed to Vice Chancellor of University advancement, Christopher Dyba. Bowman said his reason for resigning was due to a task he couldn’t complete in “good faith or good conscious.”
“Scott brings a wealth of knowledge, management skills and vision to the position that will allow him to hit the ground running as the new leader of this organization,” ECU Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Christopher Dyba said.
Francis will represent almost 170,000 alumni at ECU. Francis will lead the Alumni Association’s staff and volunteers and will direct the association's programs and component part.
“We are excited to welcome Scott and confident in his ability to further the mission of the ECU Alumni Association to inform, involve and serve the members of the ECU family throughout their lifelong relationship with the university,” Carolina Tait, director for alumni marketing and communications at ECU said.
