The Greenville Police Department has arrested two Pitt County men on multiple counts of trafficking in heroin.

The arrests concluded a two month investigation, which resulted in the seizure of 9,650 bags of heroin, in addition to four and a half ounces of uncut heroin.

The Greenville Police Department held a press conference yesterday afternoon to announce the arrest of James Christopher Alexander and Davarus Tarcel Williams.

Williams, 35, was arrested on Thursday after a traffic stop was conducted in the area of Firetower Road and Charles Boulevard.

The officers searched his vehicle and residence, where they found a total of 7,400 bags of heroin, $30,128, two handguns, and four and a half ounces of uncut heroin.

The approximate street value of the heroin seized is $260,150.

Officers discovered a hydraulic hidden compartment in William’s vehicle, in which a large amount of heroin was hidden. The compartment was discovered when officers noticed non-factory alterations to the vehicle during an inspection.

Deputy Chief Ted Sauls said the discovery demonstrates the importance of training for officers, who may have missed the compartment otherwise.

Due to the hidden compartment, the vehicle will not be allowed to recirculate into the public, and awaits the court decisions regarding its usage or disposal.

Alexander, 45, was arrested Thursday night at his residence located in Grimesland, North Carolina Alexander was already on house arrest at the time.

The arrest followed a two month long investigation conducted by the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force. During the investigation, detectives learned Williams and Alexander were supplying eastern North Carolina and Pitt County with heroin.

Sauls said the task force does not have any reason to believe that either Alexander or Williams have any gang affiliations.

He also said the task force does not have reason to believe the heroin or suspects have any connection to the tainted batch of heroin that led to multiple deaths last spring.

The Greenville Regional Drug Task Force is a multi-department coalition composed of officers from multiple local and state agencies, including the GPD and East Carolina University Police Department.

Both Williams and Alexander are being held at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $2 million secure bond.
