The Uptown Greenville Board of Directors announced in a press release the rebranding of Uptown Greenville to Downtown Greenville Partnership (DGP) in North Carolina on July 11.
According to the press release, the Executive Director Kyle Parker said, the focus for the Downtown District is on events, the “beautification” and marketing of the businesses. Parker said the goal is to connect the community to the businesses downtown.
“The Downtown Greenville Partnership rebrand was launched to embrace the use of the term ‘downtown,’ reminding us of our past while capitalizing on the renewed popularity of living, dining and enjoying entertainment downtown,” the press release said.
The district, according to the press release, has had over $260 million in completed and on-going projects in the past five years and brought in over 20 businesses in the same amount of time. According to the press release, there has been an increase in event participation and “residential accommodations” post COVID-19 in downtown.
ECU’s Millennial Campus, the BUILD Grant project, and The Hilton Garden Inn have made additional investments to the district according to the press release.
“The change of direction with the rebrand from Uptown to the Downtown Greenville Partnership was driven by a downtown stakeholder board that focuses on achieving tangible results,” said Jim Blount, Board Chairman for the partnership. “Our stakeholder board understands that if Greenville is going to be competitive in recruiting new businesses to our City we have to have a vibrant downtown.”
According to the press release, the DGP Executive Committee will be:
