East Carolina University officials have received three separate reports of possible tampering of pre-poured drinks at the Theta Chi fraternity house.

Under the Clery Act, these activities can be considered aggravated assault, according to the alert. It said all three victims were given pre-poured drinks at parties in late September.

“It is unlawful for any person to knowingly distribute any food, beverage, or other eatable or drinkable substance which that person knows to contain any harmful substance,” the alert said.

All three victims reported that these events happened on Sept. 24, 26 and 30, the alert said. The university is currently investigating the allegations, according to the alert.

Students are warned to never leave their drinks unattended or accept an open or a pre-poured drink at social gatherings on the alert sent out to all ECU students.

“This Timely Warning is intended to promote safety on campus and in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1990,” the alert said.
